  4. Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge Project

Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge is a famous bridge made with rope located near Ballintoy in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
The bridge links the mainland to the tiny island of Carrickarede.
It spans 20 metres and is 30 metres above the rocks below.
The bridge is mainly a tourist attraction and is owned and maintained by the National Trust

The National Trust provide a certificate to say you crossed the rope bridge.
There was a previous version of a certificate but they wanted a new version.

Pencil Drawing

Pen & Ink Drawing

Acrylic Painting

I applied a series of acrylic washes over the pen & Ink drawing and added a airbrush sky background.
I used very few colours and I wanted it to be very flat like the old travel posters that I love
that are produced using a silkscreen method of printing.
I wanted the sky to become the place for the text to be.
I knew the final text for the  certificate would be assembled in both Photoshop and In Design.

The Finished Certificate

The certificate was finished digitally with text and a Celtic rope knotwork drawing was added along, with a shamrock design I had earlier used for a previous project.
