Danny Boy poster – limavady danny boy festival 2001

I was contacted by a group who were putting together a Danny Boy festival in Limavady, Northern Ireland to produce a poster to promote the festival.
It was a poster designed by a committee – never a good thing. I think the finished article reflects this.

Of all my work this is in the ” not too happy with” folder. But I thought I will show it anyway.

Danny boy – first preliminary drawing

This is the first preliminary drawing. I based the rose design on the shape of a gravestone I came across near the Mussenden Temple in Downhill quite close to the area where the tune or “air” of Danny Boy was written. 
I had to hand draw the lyrics as I did not know how to superimpose text in Photoshop back then and it took ages to do.
